Attending the WakeEd Partnership World Café

Drew Walters

On February 8th, PrecisionLender attended the annual WakeEd Partnership World Café for the second year in a row. The event gives STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) educators an opportunity to connect with STEM businesses to discuss project ideas for their students and how the local businesses can help bring these ideas to life. Throughout the morning, representatives from each school were matched with two businesses and given time to network and discuss their project ideas. Ultimately, the goal is to leverage these partnerships to enrich the learning experience of their students.

Students and educators from four schools were also given the opportunity to present their project proposals in what is called an “Idea Crucible.” These schools were the final four of many who applied to present their innovative ideas to a panel of judges. The winner, Wiley Magnet Elementary School, received a grant of $3,000 from Wake Ed Partnership to help fund their Global Learning Lab, a “collaborative, flexible, and exciting learning environment for their students to address real-world problems with innovative solutions.”

The best part of the event? The discussion and collaboration leads to action. Last year, we met and partnered with York Elementary School’s STEM Lab, as well as educators from East Cary Middle School. This year, we met representatives from Garner Magnet High School and Brentwood Elementary School and discussed opportunities ranging from assisting in the growth of a coding club to participating in a Q&A session with groups of students. We are very excited to work with them soon!
